Prevent Child Marriage by Improving Education in West Nusa Tenggara
M. Riadhussyah, SH., MH.
Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed faculty members, distinguished guests, and most importantly, the graduates of the Sharia Faculty.
Today, we gather here to celebrate a significant milestone in the academic journey of the graduates before us. As we witness this momentous occasion, it is imperative to reflect upon the immense significance of the Sharia Faculty and the profound impact it has on shaping both individuals and societies.
The Sharia Faculty stands as a beacon of knowledge, wisdom, and ethical understanding. It represents a rich tradition that has withstood the test of time, providing guidance to countless generations. Within these hallowed halls, minds have been nurtured, hearts have been enlightened, and the principles of justice, compassion, and fairness have been instilled.
In an era defined by rapid technological advancements and an interconnected global community, the relevance of the Sharia Faculty cannot be overstated. The challenges faced by humanity today require individuals with a deep understanding of both legal systems and the moral framework that underpins them. The graduates here today possess the knowledge and expertise to navigate the intricate intersections of law, faith, and society.
On the occasion of this scientific oration, the theme that I would like to convey is Prevent Child Marriage by Improving Education in West Nusa Tenggara. Overcoming the problem of child marriage is indeed very important because it has a negative impact on health, education, and the economy, which is part of the Human Development Index. It is our responsibility, because the study of Sharia goes beyond mere legal codes and statutes. It is a discipline that encompasses the study of ethics, spirituality, and the intricate relationship between humans and the divine. It encapsulates the universal principles of justice, equality, and human rights, guiding individuals to strike a delicate balance between personal beliefs and societal responsibilities.
Graduates, as you step out into the world armed with your newfound knowledge, remember that your role extends beyond legal expertise. You carry the torch of enlightenment and understanding, and it is your duty to become ambassadors of tolerance, compassion, and social harmony. The world today is yearning for leaders who can bridge divides, foster understanding, and promote inclusivity. You have the power to be those leaders and a to be part of problem solver.
This need to improve the quality of education in NTB to prevent child marriage is a factor and its impact on the quality of human resources in NTB. As in Indonesia, the causes of child marriage are poverty, low education, traditions, and gender inequality. Child marriage in Nigeria causes violence, dropouts, health, low economy. This also greatly influences the education of girls in Adamawa State, Nigeria. Access to education for married girls is limited due to household burdens. Likewise in Indonesia, which causes child marriage due to low levels of education.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Embrace the responsibility that comes with your education.
Advocate for justice in all its forms and uphold the rights of the marginalized and oppressed. Seek to build bridges of dialogue and understanding, fostering a culture of respect and empathy. Embody the values that the Sharia Faculty has instilled in you, and be an agent of positive change in a world that desperately needs it.
In the pursuit of justice, let your actions be guided by the principles of wisdom, mercy, and compassion. Be critical thinkers who engage with the evolving nature of law and adapt it to the needs of contemporary society. Embrace the diversity of perspectives and opinions, for it is through dialogue and respectful discourse that true progress is achieved.
According to a number of studies, child marriage has a negative impact on human development. The existence of child marriage will have a negative impact on education, welfare and health which are indicators in the human development index, namely because it causes children to drop out of school, be trapped into child labor with low wages, and the risk of cervical cancer and preeclampsia during pregnancy because the reproductive organs are not ready. The quality of human resources and education is also another serious problem in NTB. The Human Development Index (HDI) of NTB in the last ten years shows that NTB is one of the regions with a lagging HDI in Indonesia, where nationally NTB is 29th out of 34 provinces.
As a measuring tool to determine HDI’s growth, one of which is education, besides that it is also a comparison of human life expectancy, this is a measure used in the world. HDI is used to classify whether a country is a developed country, a developing country, or an underdeveloped country and measure the effect of economic policies on the quality of life. Or precisely, HDI measures the achievement of human development based on some basic components of quality of life.
In accordance with the 2020 NTB Regional Regulation concerning the Prevention of Child Marriage, article 15 paragraph 2 letter e states the need to improve the quality of adolescents by providing access to education for the prevention of child marriage. Thus the prevention of early marriage that occurs in children will be realized through the twin province education cooperation program. Likewise, through this program the NTB Provincial Government can encourage the improvement of the quality of education which is
expected to strengthen human development and prevent child marriage.
Ladies and Gentlemen
How important education is also reflected from the Rasulullah, said “If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge”
As you embark on this next chapter of your lives, remember that the knowledge you have gained is not just a privilege but a responsibility. The world awaits your contributions, your ideas, and your commitment to creating a more just and equitable society. Let your voices be heard, for the transformation of societies begins with the courage to speak up and challenge the status quo.
In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the graduates of the Sharia Faculty. As ambassadors of knowledge and understanding, you have the opportunity to challenge misconceptions, promote tolerance, and build bridges of empathy and mutual respect.
The Sharia Faculty has equipped you with the tools to address complex legal and ethical issues. However, it is equally important to recognize that the world is not black and white.
